Chaptern 8 The scarf

I awoke in Captain Kyoraku's house and I was in his arms. I smiled as he snored softly. After I kissed his nose I left his arms and walked out of his house.

I went to Ukitake's and bathed and changed. I changed into my light blue kimono that travled to the tips of my toes. I put my hair into a messy bun, held by saphire incrested chop sticks. I then gathered up my journal and looked at myself in the mirror. How i longed for the day that i could get my Shinigami uniform. Only that wouldnt be possible until i picked a squad to join. On that last thought, I left with my pen and sketch journal and looked for something new to draw.

It didnt take long for the six divisions cherry blossom trees to catch my eye. After a while of walking around I decided on a tree to draw. It was beautiful, dark bark and creamy petals. I sat down and began my sketch.

The soft petals eased out of my pen and the bark came out in daring pen strokes. It wasnt until the sun was ready to peak out that i was interupted.

"What are you doing?" A cold and apathetic voice asked me. I already know who it belonged to.

"Admiring and sketching these beautiful trees." I said continuing to sketch. "Kind of early for you captain Kuchiki." I said smirking

"A captains morning always starts early." Kuchiki said.

"Oh really? Well do you have time to spare to enjoy some peace with me?" I asked looking at the captain. He didnt say anything to me, he just sat next to me and looked up at the trees. I smiled and flipped to the next blank page in my setch book. For tge next twenty minutes, I drew the captain, staring at the cherry blossoms. The wind started picking up and I was hit with Captain Kuchiki's scarf.

"Sorry." He said smoothly while patting his silk scarf. He then stood up.

"Where are you off to?" I asked.

"My assistant captain is sick and he was suppose to walk the slums today by the west gate. I have to take care of his work." He said. I stood up.

"I'll come with you." I said smiling. Captain Kuchiki just closed his eyes and started walking. We walked the slums in the early morning after I got a permamant pass in and out of the sereti. All the citezens went on with their normal routine it seemed. They whispered as we walked past. I could tell they didnt like captain Kuchiki much.

I on the other hand kind of liked this place. I bought some sweets and a small glass necklace. Captain Kuchiki complained that we werent here on a day trip. I just dismissed him and kept playing around. The last thing I bought was a beautiful red fan from a little girl who made them. I had such a soft spot for children. I thought the day was going good but it did take a turn for the worst. A group of boys were playing when one fell and took captain Kuchiki's scarf with him. Dirt covered the beautiful fabric.

"I-i'm so sorry sir." The boy sad bowing. His friends had run away and people were staring at us.

"Do you know who's scarf you just soild boy?" Captain Kuchiki said coldly. The boys family had run over to him. An old man and a woman.

"Im truley sorry sir." The boy said.

"Lord Kuchiki. I am extremely sorry." The old man said.

"This costs three mansions, can you afford that?" Captain Kuchiki said. I was shocked at this behavior from the captain.

"Captain." I whispered.

"No my lord, i'm sorry." The man said

"Well then i shall take the hand that took my scarf." Captain Kuchiki said. The boys mother started crying. I gasped and droped my fan. Captain Kuchiki drew his sword and I slapped him.

"Byakuya! How can you feel so little to a child?" I asked enraged. "You are no longer the captain I once knew. I knew you were cold but... to even say such a thing to a boy who is clearly sorry." I said. Byakuya looked at me. My hand was imprinted on his right cheek in a red hand. He looked to the boy and then turned and left. He stepped on my fan and that was the last I saw of him. I kneeled down and gathered his scarf into my arms.

"Miss... We owe you for saving our son." The old man said

"The debt is repayed if you can tell me where to get one of these scarfs." I said. I found out that I had to go all the way to the nobel area of the Soul society. After using most of my energy to Shunpo there I had to find this master weaver. It didnt take me to long to find it.

I entered the building and on the walls were different scarfs, dresses, capes, and kimonos all made of silk.

"Can i help you maam?" A younger man sad from behind a counter.

"Yes." I said approaching him. "I was wondering if you could tell me who made this scarf." I said handing it to him.

"My grandfather made this." The man said. "I will go get him." The man disappeared and re appeared with an older man.

"Let me see this scarf." The old man said. He inspected it. "This was made for Byakuya Kuchiki. Why do you have it? And why is it dirty?" He asked.

"We were doing some walking when a few kids got a hold of it. I need a new one." I said.

"I do have another one. I must see payment first though." The man said. I knew i didnt have enough money but if I didnt do this captain Kuchiki would hate me. This scarf was important but he was out of line. I sighed knowing i only had two options. I pulled the chop sticks from my hair and the a ring from my finger. I knew it was more than enough.

"This is a beautiful a ring... It pays for the scarf but why part with it? Or these beautiful chop sticks?" The old man asked.

"Some people are more important than jewelery." I said smiling.

"One moment ma'am." The old man said. I nodded and decided to look around. A Red kimono with a gold pheonix on it caught my eye.

"Wanna try it on? I bet you would look good in it." The man said. I smiled and agreed. I tried it on and showed the man. He helped me tie the black sash that had a red silk bow on it. "Wow... that was made for you." The young man said blushing. I looked in the mirror and he was right. The low silk came to my mid thighs and the sleeves were large and elaborate along with the rest of the kimono. It hugged in all the right places and matched my hair and eyes, but i just didnt have the money.

After i got changed back into my normal clothes the old man gave me the new scarf.

"Theres a certifricate of authentisity in there." The old man said wrapping the scarf in a box. I smiled and thanked him. Then it was back home. The walk home was a cold and lonely one. It wasnt until I got back to Captan Kuchikis that I felt warm. It took me a while to knock on his door. But I finaly did.

"Aika..." Byakuya said.

"Can I come in?" I asked.

"Sure." He said letting me inside. He sat next to me on the couch and I could make out my hand print on bis face in the dimmly lit room. I gently pressed my hand to it.

"I'm sorry." I said quietly looking down. I handed him the box still pressing my hand to his cheek. He opened the box and looked shocked.

"How did you pay for this?" Byakuya asked.

"I gave up my a ring and some saphire chop sticks. They were all from my ex... I really dont care." I said.

"Your a fool." Byakuya said. "You had to do this because you protected that scum of a child." Byakuya said. Tears dripped down my cheeks. Byakuya grabbed my hand gently and stroked his cheek with it. He leaned over and pressed his lips to mine. In any other situation i would love this, but Byakuya was still to cold to understand.

"No." I said pulling away. "You dont understand Byakuya." I said getting up and walking out the door. He was to self centered at the moment to apologize right. I wanted him but not until he really apologized.
